I was sentenced as an adult due to the violent nature of my crime. I had a 12-year sentence, but pled down to six. I pled down from murder to aggravated assault.
I will be eligible for parole next year. I was 12 when I started selling coke. The Canadian system doesn’t allow kids to be put away for life nor life without parole. The maximum sentence in Canada for any crime is 20 years. A conservative parliament is trying to institute a very punitive system with a much broader net of pulling in kids with less severe crimes. They have received letters from conservative legislators in Texas that has suggest they do not implement a system similar to Texas… it doesn’t work. But the legislation will probably pass as it is politically popular.
