BASICS: Lookout Mountain Youth Services Center in Golden, Colorado, houses a maximum of 160 kids, at time of visit there were 154 juveniles. 85% of the kids are on psychotropic medication and many have severe mental issues. The center focuses on therapy and learning to vulnerable to confront issues in public. The center deals primarily with "aggrevated juveniles," those who have committed attempted murder, assault, etc. and has had success with lots of the kids.
PICTURED: R, on the grounds crew. Part of the program here is restitution - money, therapy, and paying hospital bills. The grounds crew makes a nominal amount in order to pay of restitution. He has been here for 9 months and will be out soon. He has been in the system since he was 13-14, he is originally from Denver where his family is. His parents are divorced, his mom is handicapped, both his brothers are incarcerated and he has two sisters. His time in Lookout Mountain has been his first commitment.
