BASICS: Metro Regional Youth Detention Center, Atlanta, GA. Rated for 150 Males and 50 females and are frequently near capacity, at time of visit the population was 189. Length of stay varies from several days to several years. The major takeaway from this visit was the discussion that the detention center does not control its front door, and that the schools in the area have a zero-tolerance policy that doesnât allow for normal teenage behavior. When they have been to âjuvieâ it demystifies it and makes it less of a deterrent. They have had kids as young as 7.
