BASICS: New Orleans Youth Study Center, Juvenile Detention Facility. They recently received $25 million to build a new facility after incurring damage after Hurricane Katrina. The old building was in use up until 2008. The new facility is focusing on counseling, as opposed to corrections. The facility was originally a women's center. When men were eventually introduced to the facility, lots of them escaped. After Katrina, and before the transition to the next building, the Youth Study Center had excessive electrical problems.
