“When children end up in the adult criminal justice system, no one wins.”
NC Child of North Carolina has a point. Processing juveniles in the adult justice system leads to horrific treatment of said juveniles, and also avoids necessary rehabilitation that could successfully direct these children onto the right path. And the act of bypassing the juvenile justice system is cowardly. Small, petty crimes DO NOT always result in criminals for life. Heal these children, don’t harm them.
NC Child pushes to increase the lower limit of adult sentencing from 16 and 17-year-olds to 18, the age where children LEGALLY become adults. This makes sense.
